Richard (Dick) Estes, a 2003 AYE participant, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last week. He is undergoing medical care.

This sad news was told to me today by Dick's son Ken Estes who has been an AYE participant many times. Ken is my friend and Dick is someone who has been generous to me. Additionally, my mom died from lung cancer in 2002 so this news hit me particularly hard.

The Estes family is struggling with this news.

Ken has requested that all communication about his father go through him. So if you want to make contact, make it with and through Ken.

Ken and Dick during the 2003 AYE Conference.

I thought it was so cool that Dick came to the conference with Ken that I sent him the above picture to Dick after the conference. Dick sent me a letter thanking me and offering to get together with him if I was ever in New York City. Two years later, my family and I were vacationing in the big city and Dick had us over to his place for lunch with his family. It was wonderful.

Something I admire about Dick is his desire to learn. I saw him again a few years ago when he and I were participants at a consulting workshop that Jerry led.

Please send your energy to New York City to support Dick and his family during this difficult time.

Ken, tell Dick that I'm rooting for him against his lung cancer if he'll root for me against my kidney cancer. As a team, we can beat them both. - JerryWeinberg 2009.09.18
Ken, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Jerry, the same for you.

Everyone, please stay well. Enjoy everyday of good health that you have.

Bless you and your family Ken. I enjoyed the time I spent talking with your father at AYE. I also enjoyed it when other people would tell me about the things they had discussed with your father. He made a strong impression on many of us at AYE. I had to pause as I was typing, the strength left my arms and hands. Again, bless you and your family.

Ken, your dad was so kind to me as I'm sure he was as he touched so many at the conference. Many hugs and sincere condolences to you and your family...

Ken, what very sad news. I'll treasure the book that your Dad sent me, and my memories of interesting conversations with him. He touched a lot of people, and I'm honoured to have known him (and you). Sincere condolences and best wishes to you and yours.
