Supporting Group Dialog with Metaphors, Similies and Analogies
MartineDevos, DonGray

"We cannot not communicate." The Communication Presupposition

Agile methods suggest the use of Metaphor to get the whole team on one line, to create shared understanding. Metaphors not only share tacit knowledge, but also facilitate communication about ideas, concepts and feelings where we have problems finding words.

In this session we will use metaphors, similes, and analogies to support group dialogue in two exercises:

- a retrospective or reflection
- an envisioning session

We will use our imagination and props like stuffed animals, black and white pictures, or our favorite heroes and anti-heroes as triggers. We will give the communication in our cafe color in a group mindmap that we can share with non-participants, customers, and managers.
